I decided against sushi not because I don’t like them but because I can’t make them well enough. 🙂
There are so many Japanese specialties that we haven’t tried yet, so I wanted to cook something unexpected.

Oyako Donburi, or Mother and Child Donburi

This is basically a bowl of rice with chicken and egg mixture on top of it (chicken and eggs in the context of the dish translate into mother and children).

This is a mild flavored but nevertheless tasty dish. I would call it Japanese-style comfort food. I cooked it in no time. While rice was still cooking on the stove I prepared the chicken-and-egg part, and as a result I had the dinner ready in 30 minutes. My guys were quite happy with it. I guess I need to make them happy like this more often.

There are again a ton of recipes of Oyako Donburi on the Internet. I decided to go with the simplest recipe from bento.com.

Yakisoba Chicken

Buckwheat cereal is our family’s favorite comfort food and side dish.
