This is my second attempt at writing this page. The first one was accidentally deleted by my husband as he tried to edit it. I love my husband, but I was a little upset for a couple of days, to be completely honest.
Dinner menu:
| Macedonian French Toast |
I’m not sure how uniquely Macedonian this French toast is, but it did taste differently from a classic French toast, mostly because it was more savory and topped with feta cheese. I could also see it topped with a mix and tomatoes. All in all, this toast is a good base for creative topping. |
| Shopska Salad |
When I tasted this salad, I realized that I already had it many times. Even when I was a little kid in Odessa, Ukraine, this was an everyday summer seasonal salad that had no special name. It is easy to make and has a great refreshing taste no matter how many times you have made it before. |
| Selsko Meso – Villager’s Meat |
To give you an idea of how great this dish is, let me just tell you that my older son Matthew has already asked me to make it again. My husband, too, would have certainly finished the leftovers the following day had Matthew not gotten there before him. This is definitely a meat lover’s paradise, with three types of meat nicely complemented by some mushrooms and only a few veggies. |
| Sutlijach – Rice pudding |
I couldn’t believe my kids didn’t like the rice pudding. Matthew ate a spoonful and said that it’s nice but he’d rather take another helping of selsko meso. Eugene didn’t even want to try it and just asked if there was any plain rice left, which he then ate with ketchup. Well, my husband and I just couldn’t believe our luck because that meant each of us could have a second helping (which we did). The lemon and cinnamon notes made for a subtle pleasing taste. |
