Bubert

Bubert is a traditional dessert of Baltic states – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp Cream of Wheat
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp of sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract or vanilla sugar
  • 1 tbsp of butter
  • 1 apple, diced

Step 1. Prepare apple sauce. Saute diced apple in a 1 tbsp of butter, until tender. Mash apples with 1 tbsp of sugar. Place in a fridge.

Step 2. Prepare cream of wheat. Pour milk into a small pot and bring it to boil. Set heat to low and add cream of wheat. Continue to cook for 2-3 minutes, turn off the heat, cover, and let it rest for 10 – 15 minutes.

Step 3. Separate egg yolks from whites. Combine egg yolks with 1 tbsp of sugar and vanilla extract. Add it to cream of wheat and carefully mix.

Step 4. Beat egg whites until soft picks are formed. Fold into cream of wheat mixture.

Step 5. Serve bubert with apple sauce.
